Doug Milne
Born in Dunedin, Doug has spent all his working life in education, and has worked in a variety of roles and places throughout the country.
On the business side of things, from running a number of schools over the years, he fully understands the difficulities involved in trying to keep over 1,000 “customers” satisfied at the same time, whilst balancing the books. Doug has been an active property investor since 2003, along with his other family members.
As you would expect from his background, Doug has a solid commitment to ongoing education. To this end, he successfully completed the Certificate in Small Business Management programme with the Barbican Training Centre prior to becoming a tutor. He has also gained a Master of Education degree from the University of Tasmania, in addition to his other teaching and education qualifications.
Family is of utmost importance to Doug. He and Marilyn have four grown up children, and are blessed with eight delightful grandchildren. Both daughters asked him to conduct their marriage ceremonies.
After having been married to Marilyn for over 40 years they ensure they still make time to have special quality time for each other. They particularly enjoy going for drives, going away for the weekend or going on holiday. A favourite holiday spot for chilling out and restoring the batteries is Rarotonga.
Doug is a great sports person and over the years has been involved in table tennis, cricket, rugby, netball, squash, swimming, netball and running to name just some. Currently, he is chairperson of Netball Tasman and is on the advisory board for the Pulse netball franchise, one of the five New Zealand franchises competing in the Trans Tasman ANZ Championship. On most Saturdays he can be found on the sideline following the local rugby scene. He is considering tiddly winks for next year just to complete his set. His main form of physical exercise these days, apart from gardening, is running after the grandchildren.
